🧠 THE SCIENCE
Pareidolia & Feature Alignment: This visual puzzle shows how repeated patterns disrupt shape recognition.
When a texture consists of organic shapes in warm browns, the brain's visual area V4 categorizes it as a homogenous field, filtering out local features. Because a few shadows (representing eyes, nose, and mouth) are subtly embedded, they are hidden in plain sight. Only when you perform a slow, element-by-element scan does the local alignment stand out, allowing your face-detection centers (FFA) to parse the layout and resolve the face.
